West Craigs Edinburgh

Welcome to the West Craigs Edinburgh web site.

West Craigs is a development proposal of 650 homes (33% affordable), a primary school, public park, and local shops. This web site has been produced to allow all interested parties full information on the proposal, which is undergoing pre-application consultation.

West Craigs is being promoted by Cardross Asset Management Ltd on behalf of West Craigs Ltd & The Rowan Group, which includes Dunedin Canmore Housing Association.

Consultation has been live and ongoing since 2006. On this web site you can access, view and download all information that is with The City of Edinburgh Council on West Craigs.

Want to see the proposal? - download the master-plan and aerial photos.

Concerns on effect on the landscape? - have a look at the draft Environmental Statement.

Potential effects on existing nearby residents? - go to the draft Transport Statement and view the proposed "bus gate" solution which would materially reduce existing traffic on Turnhouse Road, and direct all development traffic via the new access road. The draft Transport Statement also shows all the traffic flow calculations.

What would the proposed play park be like? - download the play park layout proposal.

What would the new primary school look like? - navigate to the schools info and get full details.

Want to register interest in the new homes - including the affordable homes? - contact Stuart Buchanan

The West Craigs web site is interactive, we welcome all comments on this proposal, but would ask that you attribute your comments - see the "Have your say" page.

West Craigs Ltd and the Rowan Group are operating this web site to try and comply fully with Planning Advice Note 81, which seeks to ensure full pre-application consultation of major developments prior to any planning application. If you'd like any further information on West Craigs please contact Stuart Buchanan at Cardross on the contacts page. We have also included on this page the e-mail addresses of the local MSP Margaret Smith, the 3 ward councillors, the local community council, and The City of Edinburgh Council if you'd like to make your views on West Craigs known to them also.

The Edinburgh Green Belt Study was published in December 2008. Stage 2 of the report (pages 23-25) comments in detail on West Craigs, stating "housing development within Area C could be located to minimise visual impacts by utilising the containment of the ridge of West Craigs to the north". You can download all of the Study on SESplan's web site. On 10 December 2008 the Scottish Ministers proposed a new integrated rail & tram station at Gogar, adjacent to West Craigs, which is likely to be fully operational prior to West Craig's target opening date. You can download further details on Transport Scotland's web site. West Craigs have also consulted on the latest ongoing Edinburgh Rural West Local Plan Alteration, the West Edinburgh Strategic Design Framework, and on the 2008 Edinburgh City Local Plan Inquiry - full details on the public consultation page.
